Unlike radiant skin which has a glowy look and reflects light evenly, dull skin is often uneven in tone and texture.

There can be many different causes of dull skin, including:

• Dehydration: Individuals that do not drink enough water may be causing their skin health to suffer. Drinking adequate water throughout the day will help to increase hydration below the skin’s surface.
• A buildup of dead skin cells: Everyone’s skin sheds dead skin cells regularly to make room for new cells. However, sometimes dead cells do not shed as quickly as they should. When this happens, they can buildup on the surface of the skin, resulting in a dull, dry, patchy complexion.
• Dryness: Skin that is dry can appear lifeless and dull, especially in the winter months when the air is extra cold and dry.
• Smoking: Smoking can cause premature aging of the skin, and can also impair the production of collagen and elastin in the skin. This can contribute to a dull complexion.
• The natural aging process: As we age, our collagen production slows and our sebaceous glands produce less oil, which is important for skin hydration. This can lead to dull skin.
